When I first started Evening Star Designs we were a catalog company. Most of our customers called their orders in. This was a great learning experience for me!
By talking to Crazy Quilters all over the world, I started to learn and understand what the people of the Crazy Quilting community were looking for, which has helped me so much over the years. It has helped me understand what kinds of threads, laces, fabrics and other goodies Crazy Quilters like to use, but the most important thing I learned was that lots of Crazy Quilters were looking for some guidance, suggestions, patterns and instructions!
In 1995 we started our Crazy Quilters Club. Within a year and a half we had nearly 600 members!
The Crazy Quilters Club went out on the Odd numbered months, six packages per year - and it was the most popular item we ever sold! In 1997 with so many people asking us to make CQ Club packages every month, we began the Crazy Quilt Series Club on the Even-numbered months. The Series Club packages are very similar to the regular CQ Club packages, except that all the packages in one of our Series coordinate in color and theme to help you create a larger project. Our first Series was “Treasures of the Orient” and it was an instant hit with everyone!
Once we began the Treasures of the Orient Series this number split and grew almost immediately until we had somewhere around 450 members in each club! Some in only one, but many in both.
Our Treasures of the Orient Series was very well loved.
It is wonderful to see that former members are still using designs from the CQ Clubs in their current work!
It has been nearly fourteen years since we started the Crazy Quilters Clubs, and while many of our favorite customers have collections of these patterns and instructions from years ago, I’ve realized that many of you are brand new to Crazy Quilting, and that you would enjoy working with these ideas as well.
