When you view the .pdf's (acrobat files) they will probably look faded - that's because the file size is reduced in the process of making an acrobat file to make it smaller.  When they are printed - they come out sharp and clear!
 
Most of the mermaids can be made much larger.  Definitely quarter page size at least.  The Art Nouveau Style mermaids included may have been book plates or other advertising.  One picture is of an old ad for certain.
 
I added page four so you could see what they might be like if the borders were changed and the mermaids themselves were enlarged.  I usually try to leave approx. .5" margin around all the pictures so you can sew them into your projects.  This varies because as you can see, while all are rectangular - some are longer and more narrow than others.
 
You can also order these just one at a time, just make sure to indicate which pictures you like.  There are four pages, each picture is numbered - so if you find one you like, just indicate which picture it is by putting in the type and picture number of the ones you'd like:

for example:  mermaids 1-2, 4-5, etc.
